JOEYS

Hi my name is Shai and I am 11 years of
age. I go to Trinity Anglican School. I live with my mum,
Tanya and my younger brother, Declan. I have always loved
animals. I have got a pet snake. Her name is Pandora.
I am looking after a young Agile Wallaby
named Lilly and she is adorable. She is nearly eight months
old and has been with us just over six months now and has
settled in very well. When we first got her she was in
shocking condition. She had at least 35 ticks on her and was
freezing cold. Lilly was away from her mother around two
days, until the vet rang us and we collected her. Lilly’s
mother went to heaven when someone accidently ran her over
in a car. She was knocked out of her pouch and was all
alone.
For
two weeks we gave her a bottle with Wombaroo and impact
(colostrums) in it. She was as happy as Larry. Impact help’s
the wallabies to build their immune system and Wombaroo is a
powder that you mix with water to make their mum’s milk. Of
cause it is not the exact same to the mum’s milk but it is
as close as we can get to it.
A few months later Lilly is healthier then
ever and we did not know that we were going to have another
surprise. Renee called us from the wildlife centre and said
that they have an agile wallaby on 0.7 milk and weighed 1.5
kg (just a little bit older then Lilly) that they would like
us to pick up from the vet. When we got there it was a boy
so I named him Banjo. Banjo had hematoma on his head, broken
blood vessels, two sprained wrists, and a broken tail. We
have had Banjo for three weeks now and he has done very well
and looks very healthy.
We
had one other little pinkie a few days ago mum and I got up
every two hours that night to feed it and cheek that its
temperature but unfortunately it died the next morning.
Lilly and Banjo are going to go to pre-release in three
weeks time from now and they are going to have a wonderful
life together.
Lily and Banjo both progressed wonderfully
and have now gone to Pre-Release. They have gone to The
Wallaby Angel on the Tablelands by the name of Dale. Thank
you very much Dale for taking over the care of our foster
babies, you are the best!!!!
