Volunteering Opportunities
Even if you do not have the time nor facilities necessary to become a volunteer wildlife carer and rehabilitator, there are many other ways in which you can help FNQ Wildlife Rescue and our native wildlife.
Volunteers are always required in the following areas:
Rescuers:
As our volunteer carers are so busy with looking after the animals already in their care, we often require assistance of members who are willing to rescue sick and/or injured animals to local vets and carers.
Centre Duties:
The FNQ Wildlife Rescue Centre is open Mon-Fri 9am-4pm and Sat 9am-12:30pm. It is operated solely by volunteers on a roster basis. Duties include:
- Answering and logging incoming calls
- Make outgoing calls to coordinate and facilitate the rescue of sick and injured native wildlife
- Provide appropriate telephone advice to callers relating to the interim care or sick and injured native wildlife
- Assist callers whenever possible with ALL types of animal enquiries
- Handle over the counter sales of fauna supplies to members and non-members alike
After-hours Phone:
Our 24hr hotline is staffed by home-based volunteers on a roster basis, covering all hours outside the Centre hours. The current shifts are Mon-Fri 6am-9am, 4pm-7:30pm and 7:30pm-6am. In addidion to the weekday shifts, there is a 12:30pm-4pm shift on both Saturday and Sunday plus a 9am-12:30pm on Sunday. The duties are very similar to those performed at the Centre with the exception of handling fauna supplies.
Administrative Duties:
There are many administrative functions that need to be covered behind the scenes. Creating regular newletters, data entry, record keeping and assisting with our education and training programs to name just a few. A helping had is always welcome.
Fundraising:
FNQ Wildlife Resuce relies heavily on corporate and public donations and hence fundraising activies need to be developed and coordinated throughout the year. Those with ideas and drive are welcome additions to our team.
Public Relations/Promotions:
We are regularly attending shows and expos manning our stand throughout the period of the event, promoting our service. Enthusiastic and people oriented volunteers are a great asset for the organisation.
